In Mississippi, there were four positions open this year on the Supreme Court. Competing in District One, Position One were two candidates – incumbent Chief Justice William L. Waller, Jr. and state representative Earl Banks. In District One, Position Two, incumbent Justice Leslie King ran unopposed. In District Two, Position Three, Justice Michael K. Randolph, incumbent, ran against attorney Talmadge Braddock. Finally, in District Three, Position Three, attorney Josiah Dennis Coleman ran against attorney Richard “Flip” Phillips to fill the seat vacated by retiring Justice George Carlson.
Chief Justice William L. Waller, Jr., Justice Michael K. Randolph, and attorney Josiah Dennis Coleman won their elections.
