Susan Lehman

Susan Lehman joined the Brennan Center in September 2006 as Director of Communications and Strategy. Ms. Lehman oversees the Brennan Center's public education and public advocacy efforts — among her breadth of duties, she manages the Center's press strategies; supervises the web presence; works with staff to devise studies, lawsuits and legislative campaigns; produces publications; coordinates public events and provides media training to staff.

An experienced writer, editor and lawyer, Ms. Lehman is co-author with Edward W. Hayes, of Mouthpiece: A Life In — And Just Outside — the Law (Doubleday,) with an introduction by Tom Wolfe. Ms. Lehman was Senior Editor at Talk Magazine, Salon.com and at Penguin Books and produced television documentaries for Court TV. Her writing has appeared in many publications including the The New York Times, The Atlantic Monthly, The New York Observer, Vogue, Glamour, GQ and the former SPY Magazine. A former criminal defense lawyer, Ms. Lehman went to Georgetown University Law Center and the Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California at Berkeley. She has a Masters Degree in English and American Studies from Berkeley and is a graduate of Amhest College.
