Case Background
Democratic members of the Wisconsin State Assembly filed a complaint challenging the constitutionality of Wisconsin’s 2011 state assembly plan on September 14, 2018. The plaintiffs contend that their First Amendment rights to association are harmed by the map, saying that the plan has hampered their ability to fundraise, register voters, attract volunteers, generate support from independents, recruit candidates, and pursue their policy agenda.
The plaintiffs have asked the court to enjoin the 2011 plan and order a new map be drawn. They also filed a motion to consolidate their case with ongoing litigation in Gill v. Whitford.
On January 30, 2019, the case was dismissed at the plaintiffs’ request.
