Mariana Paez was a Research and Program Associate in the Democracy Program, focusing on money in politics and New York election reform. Before joining the Brennan Center, she worked as a Senior Research Assistant supporting a Ph.D. candidate in his dissertation research, examining the economic ideologies of political leaders around the world. She also completed communications internships at Voto Latino and the Becker Friedman Institute for Economics.
Paez graduated magna cum laude from the University of Chicago with a B.A. in Economics and Political Science. Her senior research paper examined democratic erosion in Austria over the past three decades. Paez also served as the Editor-In-Chief of The Gate, the undergraduate political review, and worked as a researcher at the Paul Douglas Institute, a student-run public policy think tank.
