Jay Swanson is a senior fellow in the Brennan Center’s Future of the Constitution Project, where he works on the development and articulation of a vision of the U.S. Constitution that reflects its full meaning and promise. Before joining the Brennan Center, he served as legislative counsel to Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA). Prior to that, he was an associate in the appellate and Supreme Court practice group of Arnold & Porter. His work has been featured in The Nation and The American Prospect.
Swanson has a bachelor’s degree in politics from Princeton University and earned his law degree at University of Virginia School of Law, where he won the highest graduation award. He clerked for Judge J. Harvie Wilkinson of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Before law school, he served as deputy policy director to Virginia Gov. Terence McAuliffe.
