Election Day Correction mechanisms permit eligible citizens to correct errors on the voter rolls on Election Day or provide a different failsafe that enables voters to cast a ballot at the polls that counts.
-
14 states — California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, Vermont, Wisconsin, and Wyoming — plus the District of Columbia, currently or will soon permit Election Day registration, which allows voters to register or update their existing registration on Election Day.
-
In addition, Maryland and North Carolina allow voters register or update their existing registration during the early voting period, but not on Election Day.
- North Dakota has another failsafe mechanism in place, as they do not have a registration requirement.
