Congressman Rush Holt Introduces House Bill to Improve Voting Security
WASHINGTON, DC—Tomorrow, Representative Rush Holt will hold a press conference to announce the introduction of the “Voter Confidence and Increased Accessibility Act” to improve voting system security in the U.S. and provide better voting access for disabled citizens. Brennan Center counsel Lawrence Norden worked with Rep. Holt in drafting portions of the legislation and will participate in the press conference along with Rep. Holt and other members of Congress to discuss the new bill.
“We’re pleased that the new bill addresses key concerns about the integrity of our elections,” said Norden. “If passed, this law will require audits of voter verified paper records to ensure the accuracy of voting machine software, prevent voting machine manufacturers from choosing the testing authorities that certify their machines, and require that disabled citizens have a way to verify the paper records of their votes. While the bill does not address all of the concerns raised by the Brennan Center, we believe it is a very important step to improving our voting systems. We look forward to working with all members of Congress to ensure that our nation’s voting systems are as secure, reliable and accessible as possible.”
