U.S. Senators Sheldon Whitehouse, Charles Schumer, Patrick Leahy and several other Senators will introduce the DISCLOSE 2012 Act in the Senate today.
The Brennan Center released the following statement from Senior Counsel Adam Skaggs in support of the bill:
“Super PACs and shadowy non-profit groups that don’t disclose their donors are spending millions of dollars to dominate the 2012 election. The DISCLOSE 2012 Act would bring much-needed sunlight to this too-often secret spending. While public funding for federal elections and reforming or replacing the FEC are ultimately necessary to fix our broken campaign finance system, adopting the DISCLOSE 2012 Act would bring immediate, and needed, transparency to our elections. Congress should pass the Act without delay.”
