A special election was held for the District 1 seat on the Louisiana Supreme Court. Louisiana Court of Appeals Judges William J. Crain (R) and Hans J. Liljeberg (R) received the most votes in the open primary election on October 12, 2019. They competed for the seat in the general election, and Crain won that election on November 16, 2019. The seat was previously held by Justice Greg Guidry, who left after he was appointed to a position on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
