Incumbent Justice Lisabeth Hughes Abramson, appointed to a Supreme Court vacancy by Governor Ernie Fletcher in 2007, faced off against challenger Jim Shake, a judge on the Kentucky Circuit Court. All television ads run during the 2008 election were paid for by candidates, and no advertisements were negative. Justice Abramson won the election and maintained her seat on the bench. Two other justices, Daniel Venters and Mary Noble, were also up for reelection, but both ran uncontested races.
